Nutrition
Action
for Healthy Kids Initiative. This non-profit specifically addresses
changes that can be made at school to address the obesity epidemic.
American
Dietetic Association (ADA). The ADA is the nation’s largest
organization of food and nutrition professionals. They promote National
Nutrition Month and have great resources and information.
California
Project Lean. This is a Department of Health Services nutrition
education site that is loaded with material, including international recipes and
consumer material in both English and Spanish. Its Food on the Run program
targets teen and high school nutrition education.
California
Adolescent Nutrition and Fitness Program (CANFit). The mission of the
CANFit Program is to engage communities, and build their capacity to improve the
nutritional status and physical fitness of California's low-income,
African-American, Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander and American Indian youth
between the ages of 10 and 14.
California
Food Policy Advocates (CFPA). CFPA can provide a guest speaker on community
food security issues and how to conduct a food stamp outreach and advocacy
campaign. Their website has info on legislation, hunger statistics and nutrition
programs.
Center
for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). CSPI has been a strong advocate
for nutrition and health since 1971.
Dairy
Council of California. For more than 80 years, they've been an
innovator in nutrition education and communication. Dairy Council’s primary
goal is to provide Californians with scientifically accurate nutrition and
health information to help them make healthful food choices.
Dole Superkids! Lesson
plans, materials (CD, cookbook), activities, programs, information (e.g., fruit
and vegetable encyclopedia) and an area for kids.
Eat
Smart. Play Hard. This site gives practical suggestions that will
help you motivate children and their caregivers to eat healthy and be active.
The site also has materials in Spanish.
Harvest
of the Month. This site was developed by the state’s Network
for a Healthy California program and has numerous downloadable resources.
Healthy
Kids Challenge. A guide for schools, families and communities with
healthy change ideas for kids.
Healthy
Kids Resource Center. Established to assist schools in promoting
health literacy by loaning instructional resources for use in classrooms or
staff development sessions.
Healthier
US Initiative. Launched by President Bush in June 2002, this
initiative focuses on improving overall health through regular physical
activity, proper nutrition, preventative screenings and healthy lifestyle
choices.

Food Services Branch. LAUSD Food Services is an important partner in
the Network for a Healthy California—LAUSD.

Nutrition
for Kids. Books, teaching kits and other resources, useful tips,
news, articles, recipes and a free "Feeding Kids Newsletter." This
site offers its own list of recommended links, including interactive sites for
kids, parents and teachers.
School
Nutrition Association (SNA). Recognized as the authority on school
nutrition, the SNA has been advancing the availability, quality and acceptance
of school nutrition programs as an integral part of education since 1946.
Shaping
Health As Partners In Education (SHAPE). SHAPE California is a
network of over 70 school districts working together to improve the health and
academic success of California children.
Team Nutrition. This is an initiative of the USDA Food and Nutrition
Service to support the Child Nutrition Programs.
